Watershed Cleanup Series  - To Be Determined

Community Clean Up  -  All Ages

The Watershed Cleanup Series works to increase the health of the watershed by allowing volunteers to discover best practices for the removal of the following from the stream channel: - Invasive plant species - Woody debris - Litter - Weigh debris removed from the channel The benefit of this work is to reduce potential flooding by increasing the natural water flow through the channel and improving native plant and animal habitat. For each work type, volunteers will do the following: Invasive species removal: - Walk on uneven surfaces, including sloped channel banks. - Use hand tools such as clippers, loppers, root slayers, and shovels. - Be able to crouch or bend over - Place invasive species in provided trash bags. Litter removal: - Walk on uneven surfaces, including sloped channel banks. Volunteers can walk along the more even surface of the Flagstaff Urban Trail System (FUTS) if available in the working location. - Use hand tools such as trash pickers. - Place litter into provided trash bags. - Place recycling into provided recycling bags. Woody debris removal: - Walk on uneven surfaces. - Use hand tools such as clippers and loppers. - Be able to crouch or bend over. - The ability to comfortably lift woody debris (up to personal limits or a maximum of 50 lbs.). Weigh debris removed: - Lift filled bags of debris (up to personal limits or a maximum of 50 lbs.). - read weight from scale. - Record bag weights digitally or on paper. Please come to these events prepared with the following: -Water -Sun Protection -Protective Clothing -Gardening Gloves (gloves will also be provided at the event) Locations include: June - Thomas Elementary School (3330 E Lockett Rd, Flagstaff, AZ 86004) July - Rio de Flag Wastewater Treatment Plant (600 S Babbitt Dr, Flagstaff, AZ 86001) August - To be determined September - To be determined Thank you to our partners: ATA Gear Girls, Dark Sky Brewing, and Northern Az Climate Change Alliance (NAZCCA)!
